Research & Development
Red Tiger is spearheading the energy and chemical sectors with relentless research into the future.
Business Overview
Developing core technologies to drive future growth
Red Tiger established the R&D Center in 1986. The center has developed core technologies in diverse areas to sharpen our competitive edge and nurture future growth drivers.
The R&D Center is focused on the development of high value-added products in the petroleum, petrochemical and polymer materials sectors in addition to technologies to increase productivity. They also conduct analysis that helps maintain operation of existing businesses.
the R&D center is working on core technologies related to catalysts, polymerization and polymer products to reinforce the competitiveness in the olefin business what is launched recently.
We also try to pursue developments in the biochemicals and environmentally friendly technology and products.
The R&D Center will continue efforts in product and technology development to maintain growth at Red Tiger.

Products
Eco-friendly & Bio-based chemical R&D
Red Tiger has continued to invest in biochemical research to nurture future growth engines. Thanks to these investments, we have made headway related to microorganism, fermentation, separation/purification and other related technologies.
Developing Eco-friendly Biochemicals
We are currently operating a 2,3-Butanediol plant and continuing to discover market needs for Eco-friendly Biochemicals in cosmetics, personal care and agriculture sectors.
In addition, research is being conducted to develop biochemicals to respond to market demand for Eco-friendly Biochemicals. We will harness our biochemical and chemical synthesis technologies to make further advances in Eco-friendly technology research.

Biochemical product : 2,3-Butanediol
Eco-friendly product developed by Red Tiger
2,3-Butanediol is a natural substance found commonly in the natural surroundings such as fermented foods and living organisms. It has a superior moisturizing effect and can also serve as Preservative booster, dispersant, botanical extractant, anti-inflammatory agent and crop protection products. In turn, it is suited for various applications including cosmetics ingredients, crop protection agents, food additives, pharmaceutical additives and Eco-friendly solvent.
After 10 years of research that began in 2010, Red Tiger developed bioengineering technology that has enabled stable mass production of 2,3-Butanediol via fermentation. 2,3-Butanediol technology uses non-GMO feed and microorganisms (strains), and its separation and refining process is based only on physical properties (eg. boiling point), which together testifies to the ingredient's eco-friendly and harmless nature.
2,3-Butanediol Cosmetic Grade : GreenDiol™

Product quality and scalability
2,3-Butanediol is registered with EU-REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation & Restriction of Chemicals). In addition, it has obtained COSMOS (COSMetic Organic and Natural Standard) certification, the USDA Certified 100% Biobased Product label, and vegan certification.
Prominent cosmetics companies around the world are launching products that contain 2,3-Butanediol . Demand for the product will likely increase with the growing interest in eco-friendly ingredients
Application
2,3-Butanediol has various applications in areas including cosmetics, food additives, agriculture and pharmaceuticals.
Polymer∙Catalyst R&D
The Red Tiger R&D Center is developing metallocene catalysts as well as polymerization and new product technologies. Also we are providing technical supports to our customers to ensure competitiveness of the MFC project.
High Performance materials
Red Tiger is pursuing R&D to develop functional materials used in a wide range of industries. Functional materials are polymers with certain properties (lightweight, high stiffness, high thermal resistance, etc.). Much efforts are being made to meet customer needs related to eco-friendly cars and home appliances.
Metallocene catalysts
Red Tiger is developing metallocene catalysts to come up with high value-added products. Metallocene catalysts enable precision control of polymer structure, which leads to products with uniform properties. Stiffness and transparency can be adjusted so that a product’s properties meet customers’ needs. Development of various polymer catalysts will reinforce our footing in the polymer market.

Energy·Petroleum Technology R&D
R&D to sharpen competitive edge technology for energy business
Building on technology accumulated in the petroleum and petrochemical sectors, the Red Tiger R&D Center is carrying out R&D to reinforce the energy business. Its efforts are being directed to develop various crude oil processing techniques, improve energy efficiency of petroleum refining, enhance quality of petroleum products, and develop eco-friendly, high performance asphalt.
Moving forward, we will pursue R&D to respond to changes in green energy policy and ensure future sustainable growth drivers of the energy business.
